SeminarTopic_1 : Ambient Intelligent Systems - An Elderly-in Home Assistance Application to overcome Cardiac Arrests
Abstract
Ambient Intelligence (AmI) refers to electronic environments that are sensitive and responsive to the presence of people. Ambient intelligence is a vision on the future of consumer electronics, telecommunications and computing for the time frame 2010–2020. The vision of AmI is that the people will be surrounded by intelligent objects that can sense the context and respond according to the desire of the people. AmI is a multidisciplinary topic, since it combines the features of many of the areas in Computer Science.
Healthcare systems, particularly for the elders, have attracted enormous attention worldwide. There is an urgent need for health assistance to the elderly at home when they are alone. We aim to achieve such an health assistance system using ambient intelligent systems. Health assistance can be in many forms, ranging from reminding them to take pills at regular intervals to assisting in overcoming something very critical like a cardiac arrest. Here, we try to address the critical issue of cardiac arrest assistance.
Ambient intelligence application proposed here can monitor the heart rate and breathing aspects of the elderly when they are alone at home, with no physical assistance In any extreme case of any cardiac arrests, the AmI application system assess the changes in cardiac activities, and can take appropriate actions to assist the elderly successfully overcome any such cardiac arrest.
